Poland’s President Andrzej Duda called for an immediate end to the Israel-Hamas war, expressing concern for the suffering of the civilian population in an exclusive interview with Al Arabiya.
“Today the people in the Gaza strip are suffering enormously. We, as Poland, are trying to always act for the peace. That is what we care the most about. We have got a long tradition of peacekeeping actions and different attempts at supporting peace solution between Israel and Palestine; and the people of Palestine. For many years, we support the two-state solution and that is what we are repeating in all the forums, especially in the UN forum,” he said.
He added: “Today we are immensely worried about the suffering of the civilian population. We would like to have the end to this conflict, to this war as soon as possible.”
Duda stressed that his country is trying to provide aid to Gaza.
He stated: “First of all, to put a stop to the suffering of the people because it is with big pain that we are following the situation today, especially the fact that it is women and children who are suffering. It is a dramatic situation. And this has to end as soon as possible. We do not have any doubt about that. And this is that direction in which the International Community should act.”
On October 7, an explosive conflict broke out between Israel and Hamas following an unexpected attack initiated by the militia from the Gaza Strip. Hamas members overcame security barriers and infiltrated southern Israel, an action that was simultaneously paired with a volley of rocket fire.
In response, Israel reported the loss of 1,200 lives, marking it as one of the most lethal incidents in Israel’s history. The attack also included the capture of around 240 hostages.
Israel responded by raining fire on the Gaza Strip and an extensive and aggressive ground offensive. This has subsequently led to approximately 16,000 Palestinian fatalities, as reported by the health ministry in Gaza, which is managed by Hamas.
